Communications Director, Kristyn Wong-Tam’s Re-Election Campaign

Councillor Kristyn-Wong Tam has a long history of investing in the City of Toronto through both the public and private sectors. As Councillor, she is a community advocate who champions a safe and sustainable Toronto, a strong arts and culture industry, and a vibrant public realm. She represents Toronto’s diverse downtown core composed of 14 distinct neighbourhoods and over 89,000 constituents. In a few short months, we built a team of 100+ volunteers, canvassed thousands of houses and attracted media attention across the city. Councillor Wong-Tam won with an impressive 62.5% of the vote.

Responsibilities:

  • Worked with the candidate and core team to develop the campaign vision and critical path; devised comprehensive communications and community engagement strategy; led daily meetings in a fast-paced political campaign environment.

  • Produced all communications content, including campaign literature, templates, press releases and donor appeals; wrote, designed, and proof-read collaterals; managed print production; wrote key messaging and scripts for the candidate.

  • Spearheaded a digital strategy to foster and mobilize mailing list of more than 20,000 people; produced issue-based CRM communications content; built ladder of engagement principles into all communications materials; managed website.

  • Planned high-profile fundraising events, co-ordinated logistics including programming, speakers, promotion, catering, venue set up, and registration; managed 15 volunteers the day-of the event from set-up to wrap-up; raised $50,000 in two months.

  • Built a strong network with key community leaders to bring them and their communities onboard, build momentum, and engage voters; managed 100+ volunteers over the course of the campaign.
